  • Avoid too many personal pronouns and casual language

  • Keep your audience in mind at all times - direct your language to them

Be aware of The Conscious Style Guide - A comprehensive guide to using conscious language. In one place, you can access style guides covering terminology for various communities and find links to key articles debating usage.

  • Use bullets liberally
  • Avoid too much text, break up it up your content with bullet points, images, tables, spaces, or other formatting ideas.

  • Add a new page if you need to spread out your content but also beware of too many tabs

  • Add a linked table of contents or navigation list from the home page of your guide if you have more than 2 pages.

  • Provide as many formats as possible - links, images, video, files, text, etc.
  • Add a link to any boxes within the guide that you are referring to by using a hyperlink.
    To do this:

  1. Edit the box (click on the pencil in the right-hand corner) ,
  2. Copy the link address,
    undefined

Fonts & Colors

Fonts:

  • Use no more than 2-3 different fonts in a guide

  • Use 14-18 font sizes

  • Avoid using ALL CAPS

  • Use black for all fonts with RARE exceptions when necessary (your discretion)

    • When choosing other fonts colors, avoid using blue because it is used for links.

  • Use bold or CAPS for emphasis, not color.

  • Use Headers under FORMAT to create sized fonts whenever possible instead of adjusting the font sizes manually. (for accessibility readers)
