Naming Conventions for Guides:
Remember that most users will be accessing guides by name. Keep names straightforward as they will be appearing in a list of guides. Use the simplest, most obvious name for a guide.
- “Subject Guides” should be titled with the subject of the guide and the word "guide" after it. Example: "Nursing Research Guide, “Career Information Guide”
- “Course Guides” should be titled with:
- Name of course: abbreviation & number. Example: Psychology 100: Psych100 English 101: Eng101, Sociology 100: Soc100
What if an instructor wants a personal guide for their class? If individual instructors need their own special guides, create a separate one and link it to the original Course Guide by URL which will be provided to the instructor to share with students. If you do this, the guide should be clearly marked in the guide title with whatever the guide name is and then the instructor's first initial and entire last name. It should be very clear who the guide is for.
- “General Purpose” is a default guide type to use with library resources and otherwise with guides that don't fit another category.
- “Topic Guides” should provide clear titles that match what they are about, so that users can choose them from the list.
